Yellow Cedar has a distinctive and uniform yellow colour. The narrow band of sapwood is very similar in colour to the heartwood. The wood is fine textured and straight grained. Yellow Cedar's natural extractives make it a decay resistant wood and aromatic when cut. It has a growth so slow that it takes 200 years to reach a marketable size. Yellow Cedar is one of the world’s most durable woods with exceptional longevity.

It allows ease of use for working numerous applications such as decorative panelling, furniture, mouldings and cabinet work. Featuring a smooth and fine texture, Yellow Cedar is perfect for carvings and turnings. Its usage extends to speciality construction projects like temples and shrines. Due to its natural durability Yellow Cedar is widely used for shingles, posts, poles, marine pilings, small boat hulls, oars and paddles, water and chemical tanks, exterior door and window boxes. Structural grades are commonly used for exterior applications such as bridges, decking stairs and for landscaping.
